Jonathan Sabine studied furniture design at the Sheridan Institute. Since graduation he has worked in a variety of capacities in the design field including design engineering, furniture construction, and graphic design. From 2005 to 2007 he exhibited regularly with Toronto's Vest Collective and operated Birtch Sabine design. Mat Cult was formed in 2007. His work has appeared in several publications including I.D., Fashion, and Design Lines.

Beads is a hanging lamp influenced by beaded objects such as bracelets, necklaces, and rosaries. These lamps are both primitive and sophisticated, like the stuff that inspired them and like the human concerns by which that stuff was inspired: our vanities, aspirations, and superstitions.
